How to Update Your Legal Name in Stripe

If you're running into errors with payouts or verifying your account, it may be because the legal name on your Stripe account doesn't match your government-issued ID exactly

⚠️ Why This Happens

Stripe verifies your identity using the name on your account. If there's even a small mismatch between your legal name in Stripe and the name on your ID β€” like a missing middle name, a nickname, or a typo β€” it can cause issues with payouts or identity verification.

The fix is simple: update your legal name in Stripe so it matches your ID exactly.

πŸ› οΈ How to Update Your Legal Name

  1. Open the Porter mobile app

  2. Go to Profile β†’ Payments Account

  3. Scroll all the way to the bottom and tap View Stripe Account

  4. Once you're logged into Stripe, tap the ☰ hamburger icon in the top left

  5. Go to Profile

  6. Scroll down to your personal information and edit your legal name

βœ… Make sure the name matches exactly what's printed on your government-issued ID β€” first name, middle name (if applicable), and last name.

That's it! Once your name matches your ID, any verification or payout issues should resolve. If you're still running into problems after updating, reach out to us and we'll help you sort it out.
